While guns are not my primary field of study, I have often found that the study of antique weapons overall will reveal clues in virtually all sectors of weaponry and many breakthroughs in the study on a certain sword have been found in firearms references. As new members join here, I am really looking forward to seeing this part of the forums develop, as I am anxious to learn more on these as well.

One 19th century firearm I have become especially keen on learning more about, including the potential for acquiring a relatively sound yet servicable example at a reasonable price, is the pre Winchester Henry rifle. I look forward to hearing from gun collectors out there more on the history of these rifles, thier use among American Indian tribes (why were these used more commonly than the Winchester if I am correctly understanding?) and if anyone has seen examples for fair and reasonable price. Naturally I have heard the unbelievable prices thrown about at gun shows!

All best regards,
Jim
